I created this painting after coming back home, to my hometown, while knowing it was going to be difficult times since you are fighting cancer. Actually right after you showed me the bee pin I gave you, you reminded me that yellow is actually your favorite color and I felt right away inspired. I was inspired by the way you are fighting with positivity and not wanting to let go of control despite the illness. I thought of the fact that you always wanted to wear makeup to look pretty. What you saw in the mirror made you confident, after all you always told me how you dress is how other people will see you and how you see youself is very important as well. I wanted this painting to show how strong, elegant and empowered you are. By the time we had to cut your hair, which was falling as a secondary effect of your treatment, I had already cut mine as short as possible for many reasons but mostly for support and freedom because I thought it was beautiful action and had a strong message to it. (after all I will always believe beauty has many faces despite what says the current trends) I painted bright flowers as you told me the roses you received never truly were your favorite. Your favorite flowers are actually tulips; bright colored and full of vigor. I write this not knowing what will happen next to you after memory loss and diziness although I will forever remember your strenght which hopefully will keep on inspiring me. I love you Omi. Always
